Reimbursement is typically based on the actual cash value of the necessary items purchased during the baggage delay. In addition to travel insurance baggage delay coverage, here's what typically qualifies:  

  • You must be a ticketed passenger on a common carrier 

  • Claims must be verified by the common carrier, who must certify the delay or misdirection  

  • Receipts for the purchases must accompany any claim 

  • Checked baggage is delayed or misdirected by a common carrier for more than 

  • (24) hours for AXA Silver and AXA Gold policyholders.  

  • (12) hours or more for AXA Platinum Plan policyholders.

Yes! Baggage Delay coverage is included in the AXA Silver Plan, AXA Gold Plan, and AXA Platinum Plan. Coverage limits will differ based on the travel plan selected.    

3.Can I purchase Baggage Delay coverage separately from a travel plan policy? 

No, baggage insurance benefits are only available as part of our travel protection plans. But our AXA Silver is our lowest cost plan, which includes baggage delay covers, baggage loss coverage, and more.  

4.When does delayed baggage insurance coverage start? 

Coverage typically begins after your checked baggage has been delayed for a specified time, usually between 12 to 24 hours, depending on your travel insurance policy. Once this period has passed, you're eligible for reimbursement of essential purchases.
