Pregnancy travel insurance helps cover certain unexpected complications that may arise while you're traveling. It is not designed for routine checkups or childbirth, but may include emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, medical evacuation, and reimbursement for prepaid trip costs if you need to cancel or delay your trip for a covered reason. AXA also provides 24/7 global assistance to help coordinate medical care and travel changes when needed.

AXA travel insurance does not cover routine prenatal care, scheduled checkups, or childbirth. However, it offers coverage for certain unforeseen pregnancy complications that occur during your trip. This can include emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, or medical evacuation if you need specialized care that isn't available locally.

In addition, if a covered pregnancy-related complication makes it medically necessary to cancel, interrupt, or delay your trip, your plan may help reimburse non-refundable prepaid costs. To be eligible for some benefits, such as coverage for pre-existing conditions, your plan may need to include a waiver and be purchased within a specific timeframe.
Coverage applies only to eligible unforeseen complications as defined in your policy documents.

Becoming pregnant is not in itself considered a covered reason for cancellation. However, if an unforeseen pregnancy complication develops that makes you medically unable to travel, you may be eligible to claim trip cancellation benefits.

For example, if your doctor advises against flying due to an unforeseen complication that arose after you purchased the policy, AXA could reimburse your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs. It’s important to review your plan’s terms to understand what qualifies as a covered reason for cancellation.

Many travel insurance providers, including AXA, limit coverage in the later stages of pregnancy. Most plans do not provide protection if you are traveling within a certain number of weeks before your due date, commonly in the last trimester or within nine weeks of delivery.

Airlines and cruise lines may also impose their own restrictions, which could affect your ability to travel. Always check your policy documents, as well as your carrier’s requirements, before booking.

Pregnancy itself may be treated as a pre-existing condition if you were already pregnant when purchasing your plan. This typically means that routine care and any known conditions will not be covered.

However, AXA offers coverage for pregnancy-related complications if you meet specific conditions, such as buying your policy within a certain number of days after your first trip payment and being medically fit to travel at the time of purchase. This ensures that truly unforeseen complications can still be covered.

AXA travel insurance does not cover childbirth or related expenses such as labor, delivery, postnatal care, or medical treatment for your newborn. These are considered expected parts of pregnancy and are not included in emergency coverage.
